(mrs. j.m. harrold) 13, clinton road, leatherhead, surrey, kt22 8nu, u.k. telephone: (+44) (0)1372 375728. news organist, accompanist & ensemble player organ repertoire choral conductor church musician wedding music composer organ teaching piano teaching an agreement for music tuition curriculum vitae links bookings & inquiries dr. julie ainscough, classical musician, teacher and composer. hello! this is http://www.organum.org.uk and i am dr. julie ainscough. i would like to welcome you to my website, in which you will find out about my activities as a professional musician. i teach piano, organ, music theory, music composition, choral conducting and choral rehearsal techniques. i perform primarily on the organ, but i can also undertake continuo and piano accompaniment. i am active also as a composer, an area in which i have won several prizes and in which i gained my doctorate. my website url plays on a latin word which can be translated as "voice, instrument or organ", which seemed apposite. i teach piano to pupils of all ages (from five years upwards) and at all levels, across a breadth of repertoire and styles, from beginner to diploma level (including atcl and ltcl). pupils are prepared for trinity college london grade examinations, for which almost all achieve a merit or distinction. examinations, however, are regarded as useful milestones rather than as an end in themselves. some of the more goal-orientated and confident pupils also compete successfully in music festivals. other pupils choose not to participate in festivals or to take examinations, but to play purely for their own enjoyment and relaxation. i teach organ both privately and at hampton school (where i have been on the staff since 1994). a considerable number of my young organ pupils attain organ scholarships at oxford and cambridge (see the organ teaching page for details), from where they are able to gain professional employment, either in significant cathedrals or in other branches of music. adult pupils learn both to accompany the liturgy and to play repertoire to a standard which enhances it. having spent many years as 'organist & choirmaster' or 'director of music' in both anglican and roman catholic parish churches, i am now organist at st. augustine's abbey at chilworth, near guildford, where i accompany the benedictine monks' (and the lay congregation's) singing of gregorian plainchant and provide additional organ music at the sunday mass. i live (with my husband, two sons and three cats!) in leatherhead, surrey, near junction nine of the m25 motorway, the a3 london-portsmouth road and very close to the a24 london-worthing road; both london heathrow (lhr/egll) and london gatwick (lgw/egkk) airports are approximately thirty minutes' drive from leatherhead. trains from london (waterloo and victoria) for dorking, horsham and guildford call at ashtead and leatherhead; trains from london (waterloo) for guildford call at oxshott; trains on the tonbridge-guildford-reading line call at dorking (deepdene), close by the main station. my substantial pupil roster draws upon a large geographical area which, principally, includes south-west london, middlesex and surrey. pupils have come to me in recent times from ashtead, banstead, barnes, betchworth, binscombe, brockham, cambridge, cobham, chobham, claygate, crawley, dorking, ealing, east horsley, east molesey, effingham, epsom, farnborough (hampshire), fetcham, grayshott, great bookham, hampton, headley, kingston-upon-thames, langley, leatherhead, new malden, milford, oxshott, rainham (essex), raynes park, reigate, redhill, shamley green, staines, streatham, surbiton, sutton, tadworth, teddington, thames ditton, thornton heath, twickenham, uxbridge, walton-on-thames, west byfleet, west horsley, westcott, westonbirt, weybridge and whitton. my pupils have been (and are) of many different nationalities, drawn from across the world, with a number coming from cultures beyond that of western europe. please feel free to contact me to discuss your musical needs and aspirations. fees are based on the standard professional scales recommended by the royal school of church music , the royal college of organists and the incorporated society of musicians (which latter organisation elected me as an accredited member of its register of private professional teachers after having validated all of my academic credentials, subjected my modus operandi to exhaustive scrutiny and having obtained appropriate references from within the profession). i hold also a fellowship of the society, in recognition of my long-standing membership.
